Please help us welcome a Brazilian Bateria that brings the afro-brazilian rhythms and beats of Salvador, Bahia, our good friends "Batala" will be joining us in 2018! Batalá Los Angeles is part of the larger internationally recognized Samba Reggae family created in 1997 by Giba Gonçalves. Batala Los Angeles was founded in 2013 by Musical Director, Mario Pallais, who has taken his group around the world to play the Afro-Brazilian sounds in Cuba, South America, USA and more!
Batala History: Batala—an international samba reggae performance group—was founded in Paris in 1997 by Giba Goncalves, a Bahian percussionist (Ilê Aiyê, Olodum, Muzenza, Male Debale, Jimmy Cliff, Tupi Nago, and Kaoma). One of the founders of the Afro Bloco Cortejo Afro, an arts education project to help underserved young people living in poor communities, Goncalves moved to Paris in 1997 and founded Batalá as the European wing of the project. Neise also collaborates in different charities in her community, in special as a spokeswoman for the Women in Need International Foundation, a non-profit organization focused in programs of recovery for women and children victims of domestic violence. Vidal has diverse training that includes the Creative School of Olodum and the arts program at Liceu de Artes e Oficios da Bahia, where he studied Music Education, Dance, and Theater.
