We told you we had more additions coming to the 5th Annual Brazilian Day Festival and we weren't kidding. We're happy to announce that we have just confirmed and added GRACIE ARIZONA (RELSON GRACIE) JIU-JITSU to the festival!
You can't think of Jiu Jitsu without the name "Gracie" at the forefront of the martial arts / jiu jitsu world. Brazilian Day would like to welcome the Gracie Arizona Academy to the festival this year. Lead by instructor Nathan Zigler, Gracie Academy will give instruction and demonstrations on the Fundamentals / Technique / Positions / Submissions of Jiu Jitsu and whole lot more! This is one of part of Brazilian culture you will not want to miss!

Bom Dia Friends! We hope you had a great weekend! I know we did! We have some more exciting News coming up this week! Just when you thought we couldn't add more details to the already full event, well think again! We want this year to be the best year ever!
Aside of music, dancing and activities, we will have more than 20 Vendors lining the walk ways at this years festival. We'll feature a number of Food Vendors serving Brazilian, Lebanese & American Food, Plus specialty Cocktails by Leblon serving up Caipirinhas! We'll have special shaved ice, smoothies, lemonade and soft drinks to keep you cool as well! Someone say Dessert? We got you covered!
If food & drinks aren't enough, we'll have a number of amazing local business's on hand selling a variety of merchandise including Brazilian Flags, CDs, T-Shirts, Brazilian Costumes, Jewelry, Travel options, Financial planning, Job Opportunities, Computer Tech, Healthy Living and TONS MORE!
Have kids? NO problem! We'll have a kids corner that's perfect for young ones to have some fun! Kids can get creative with our arts and crafts activities, balloons, face painting, and if that wasn't enough, they can run and enjoy the large grassy hill while dancing to some Brazilian bands & Djs!

The Center, is One of the premier performing-arts halls in the western United States, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts showcases a diverse season of dance, jazz, classical and world music, theater and film from around the world. More than 1,000 indoor and outdoor performances, educational programs, festivals and other events are presented and hosted at the Center each year serving 200,000+ visitors.

On behalf of Afro:Baile, the Center, and Brazilian Day staff, we are excited to announce Scottsdale's vary own "Mayor Jim Lane", will be joining us for the 5th Annual Brazilian Day Festival! Mayor Lane has expressed to us, he would like to join the festivities and give an opening statement to get our festival underway! The City's mayor has been a huge part of the growth and development of the city of Scottsdale. Lane has pledged to continue Scottsdale’s path of reform, results, and recovery through more jobs, lower taxes and preserving Scottsdale’s enviable quality of life.
We're happy to welcome the Mayor, staff, and city residents to attend and enjoy a day of Brazilian culture on Saturday September 6th 2014 at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Mayor Lane is set to take the mic at NOON.
ABOUT MAYOR JIM LANE:
Mayor W. J. “Jim” Lane served for four years on the Scottsdale City Council beginning in June 2004, and began his first term as Mayor in January 2009. He was re-elected to the Mayor’s Office in 2012 and began his second term in January of 2013
His community service also includes six years on the Scottsdale Paradise Valley YMCA Board of Management. He chaired the 1999 Kids Campaign annual fund raising effort and is currently an emeritus board member.
Mayor Lane currently represents the city as a member of the Flinn Foundation’s Arizona Bioscience Roadmap Steering Committee. He is the immediate past president and a member of the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, and a member of the Executive Committee of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns. He is treasurer of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council, a member of the Executive Committee, Economic Development Committee, and past Chair and member of the Transportation Policy Committee. Mayor Lane also serves on the Boards of Scottsdale Leadership, Health Records Banking Alliance, the Rio Salado Foundation, the Scottsdale Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, a Governor’s Appointee to the Arizona Game and Fish Appointment Recommendation Board, and a member of the Municipal Tax Code Commission.

Bom Dia Friends!~ we're excited to announce we have added a new segment to this year's Brazilian Day! The new edition you ask? "BRAZILIAN ZOUK"! As most of you know, Brazil is known for its traditional dance styles such as the Samba, Lambada and Forro to name a few. Now, the world is being taken by storm with a new twist and style known as "Brazilian Zouk".
The couple's dance may look a little sensual, but it really represents two dance movements done to exhume one another chemistry or love and emotion while creating a close embrace. We're excited to announce we have instructor - John McAtee teaching and demonstration this new and exciting dance style right here at Brazilian Day! Arrive early, as this will be one of the first dance performances / workshops of the day!
