On behalf of Afro:Baile, the Center, and Brazilian Day staff, we are excited to announce Scottsdale's vary own "Mayor Jim Lane", will be joining us for the 5th Annual Brazilian Day Festival! Mayor Lane has expressed to us, he would like to join the festivities and give an opening statement to get our festival underway! The City's mayor has been a huge part of the growth and development of the city of Scottsdale. Lane has pledged to continue Scottsdale’s path of reform, results, and recovery through more jobs, lower taxes and preserving Scottsdale’s enviable quality of life.

We're happy to welcome the Mayor, staff, and city residents to
attend and enjoy a day of Brazilian culture on Saturday September 6th 2014 at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Mayor Lane is set to take the mic at NOON.

ABOUT MAYOR JIM LANE:
Mayor W. J. “Jim” Lane served for four years on the Scottsdale City Council beginning in June 2004, and began his first term as Mayor in January 2009. He was re-elected to the Mayor’s Office in 2012 and began his second term in January of 2013

His community service also includes six years on the Scottsdale Paradise Valley YMCA Board of Management. He chaired the 1999 Kids Campaign annual fund raising effort and is currently an emeritus board member.

Mayor Lane currently represents the city as a member of the Flinn Foundation’s Arizona Bioscience Roadmap Steering Committee. He is the immediate past president and a member of the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, and a member of the Executive Committee of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.  He is treasurer of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council, a member of the Executive Committee, Economic Development Committee, and past Chair and member of the Transportation Policy Committee. Mayor Lane also serves on the Boards of Scottsdale Leadership, Health Records Banking Alliance, the Rio Salado Foundation, the Scottsdale Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, a Governor’s Appointee to the Arizona Game and Fish Appointment Recommendation Board, and a member of the Municipal Tax Code Commission.
