The Annual Samba Queen Contest is an integral part of the Brazilian Day Arizona Festival. Each year nearly a dozen contestant’s sign up to dance, shake, and groove for a chance to take home the crown! The annual Samba Queen Contest was started in 2010 as a special feature at Brazilian Day, to highlight one of the many different traditions held in Brazil; more specifically, held during “Carnaval” time. The annual Samba Queen Contest is based on the premise of the “Carnaval Queen” seen each year riding high upon the floats in Brazil. At Brazilian Day, the annual Samba Queen Contest is held at the end of day to close out the event’s day long festivities. The contest consist of Samba Dancing, Crowd Interaction, Performance and overall Brazilian Spirit. The winner is crowned Queen at the end of the contest, and is given an official crown to keep for 1 calendar year. The winner also receives a package of goods courtesy of Afro:Baile. *Please Note, Our contest is open to everyone who can dance Samba!
